Chang-Jae Roh has been awarded the “Outstanding Poster Prize” at iWOE-32

Dr. Chang-Jae Roh, in the Group of Prof. Andrea Caviglia, DQMP, University of Geneva, has been awarded the “Outstanding Poster Prize” for his presentation, “Real-space mapping of orbital quantum geometry at oxide interfaces,” at the 32nd International Workshop on Oxide Electronics (iWOE-32) in Sendai, Japan, in September 2026. In this work, Chang-Jae investigated the connection between local crystal symmetry and orbital quantum geometry at oxide interfaces. Using nonlinear optical spectroscopy, real-space mapping of nonlinear electrodynamics with scanning SQUID microscopy, and symmetry-based theoretical analysis, he studied (111)-oriented LaAlO₃/SrTiO₃ heterostructures, where a structural transition in SrTiO₃ lowers the interfacial symmetry and gives rise to distinct local polar states.

The study reveals that these local symmetry variations are reflected in the nonlinear electronic response at the interface, providing a real-space view of orbital quantum geometry. This work establishes a connection between crystallographic symmetry and nonlinear electrodynamics in oxide interfaces.
