EPP 2024

The International Workshop “Electrons, Photons and Plasmons 2024” (EPP-2024) took place from June 10 to 12, 2024, in the ancient and picturesque town of Nyon at the Leman Lake. The goal of this event was to bring together the scientific communities focused on electron-energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM), which are the two powerful and rapidly developing techniques to study various spatially and temporally textured excitations in solids and molecules, such as plasmons. While these approaches ultimately yield similar information on such modes using respectively electrons and photons as probing particles, the mechanism through which these techniques do so can be radically different, making such a meeting timely and important. The topics covered by the Workshop included fundamental research, instrumentation, modelling and applications.

This unique international event, organized by Prof. Fabrizio Carbone (EPFL) and Dr. Alexey Kuzmenko (UNIGE), has seen a tremendous success, with about 70 participants from all over the world, including major leaders in the field, younger scientists and PhD students. The program included 16 invited talks, 16 contributed talks and many posters so that everyone could present and discuss their recent research. Based on this success, it was decided that this conference should be repeated in two years with the next one to be held in Sitges (Spain) in 2026.
