6th MaNEP Winter School

More than 80 physicists have found their way to Saas-Fee in a snowy Sunday January 18, 2015, to join the 6th MaNEP winter school. This was the first to be organized by MaNEP Switzerland Network, of the series of schools started in 2004. The program committee had prepared an attractive program entitled “Shedding light on correlated electrons”, and involving long and short experimental as well as theoretical lectures, with a tilt towards time-resolved spectroscopies. Complementing the program, a technical presentation by a representative of Pfeiffer Vacuum Technologies, and the traditional ski day on Wednesday.
The welcome in Hotel Allalin was cordial and professional as in previous years, and the conference center Steinmatte just large enough to grant a seat to everyone. Such a numerous participation came as a good surprise, in this post-MaNEP period. Part of this success may be attributed to the financial help of CUSO (Conference universitaire de Suisse occidentale), which supported 39 PhD students from its affiliated institutions. For the first time in this series of schools, we had a technical talk from Pfeiffer Vacuum, sponsor of MaNEP Newtork, which was very much appreciated by the participants.
Thanks to very good lectures, a constructive attitude of the participants, and perhaps also a not-too-nice weather, the school took place in a pleasant atmosphere, also confirmed by very positive feedbacks collected through an online survey. It is a pleasure to inform the participants that they have been described as polite and well-mannered by the staff of Allalin Hotel! A warm thank is addressed to the program committee, to the speakers for their excellent lectures, to the organizing committee, and to all participants. See you in 2017.
