10th MaNEP Winter School

The 10th MaNEP winter school took place in Saas-Fee in January 2025.
The school welcomed 65 students, with almost a third of them from outside the MaNEP association. Beyond Switzerland, students travelled from Italy, Germany, the UK and even the USA to join us for an intense week of physics, sun and excellent snow in the fantastic setting of Saas-Fee.
The program committee, led by Claude Monney, had put together an attractive program around the theme of quantum materials in and out-of-equilibrium, with lectures covering theoretical and experimental aspects of light-control of quantum matter, strategies to design new materials, and an introduction to new correlated phases in van der Waals materials.
Lectures were lively and discussions often continued over dinners and later into the night. A poster session during the coffee breaks encouraged scientific exchange and was universally perceived as a good way to exchange ideas and gain additional knowledge on complementary subjects.
As always, the school included two free mornings for outdoor activities. We were lucky enough to have two mornings with excellent conditions to enjoy the majestic view of the mountains, skiing on the slopes, walking or sledging in the sun.
Everyone who participated in the MaNEP winterschool – students, lecturers and organisers – thoroughly enjoyed the week. It was a fantastic opportunity for growth, both as physicists and on a personal level.
