Open PhD position in Paruch group at the University of Geneva

Prof. Patrycja Paruch group’s have an open PhD position starting from 1 September 2026 as part of a collaborative excellence project with the groups of Andrea Caviglia (University of Geneva) and Felix Baumberger (University of Geneva), supported by the Foundation for the University of Geneva through the Geneva Quantum Center.

Strain and Vacuum-Fluctuation Engineering of Quantum Matter.

The planned research in Patrycja Paruch group’s will centre on the growth, patterning, and scanning probe microscopy characterisation of the mechanical and electrical properties of thin ferroelectric films and membranes, focusing in particular on domains, domain walls, and topologically non-trivial emergent polarisation textures.

PhD candidates with a strong background in materials physics should send applications to patrycja.paruch@unige.ch with the subject GQC PhD. Scanning probe microscopy, thin film growth, and x-ray diffraction characterisation experience will be considered a plus. Please include your academic transcript, motivation letter, CV, and the name, address, and email of two references, who will be independently solicited to provide letters for shortlisted applicants.
